Eduardo Chillida was born in San Sebastián in 1924. He kept goal for Real Sociedad until a knee injury ended his football career, then spent five decades making sculpture in steel, stone and concrete that answers to the landscape around it. His work is the natural place to finish a first look at his city. Before it come the long curve of La Concha and the Parte Vieja, where bar counters stacked with pintxos belong to the neighborhood's daily routine. With an official guide and a private minivan, three hours gives couples and families new to San Sebastián a clear sense of how the city fits together. Ask your guide which counter deserves a return visit that evening.

With most of the Parte Vieja closed to traffic and parking scarce in the center, the route is built around how San Sebastián actually moves, so your time goes on the city, not on getting across it.
Hotel pickup · San Sebastián
Your guide and driver meet you at your hotel in San Sebastián. If you've added a transfer from elsewhere in the Basque Country, the minivan collects you there first.
Panoramic drive · La Concha Bay
By minivan around the bay, with stops at viewpoints over La Concha and Santa Clara Island. Your guide points out how the seafront promenade, the Miramar Palace and the belle époque buildings along the bay took shape, so the city's layout makes sense before you set off on foot.
Guided walk · Parte Vieja
On foot through the Old Town, starting in Plaza de la Constitución, whose numbered balconies date from its years as a bullring, and continuing through narrow streets of pintxo bars.
Eduardo Chillida's sculptures · Peine del Viento
A route through Chillida's works in San Sebastián, ending at the western end of Ondarreta. From there, a short seafront walk leads to the Peine del Viento, where the steel meets the open sea.
Start from anywhere in the Basque Country, with a private transfer from your hotel in Bilbao, Vitoria-Gasteiz or a village along the coast to San Sebastián and back. Quoted on request, at an additional cost.
