The Alella Denomination of Origin sits 20 kilometres north of Barcelona, where the Maresme coastal strip — a narrow band between the Mediterranean and the Catalan Serralada Litoral — transitions from market gardens to terraced vineyards.
Alella is one of Spain’s smallest DOs by surface area, producing whites from Pansa Blanca (the local name for Xarel·lo) and reds that rarely leave the region. Most people never reach it. The e-bike route follows the coastline, giving you around 90 minutes of sea views before the vines begin.
Bouquet d'Alella is among the estate’s most characterful producers. The cellar visit covers the full arc from vine to bottle — soil types, varietal selection, fermentation — and the oenologist who leads it knows this land in ways that don’t transfer to a pamphlet. The tasting that follows (three wines, each paired with something from the table) is unhurried. There’s no next group behind you.
After a picnic lunch in the fields, the train back to Barcelona takes twenty minutes.

Coastal ride to Alella
North along the Mediterranean. Sea to your left, the Serralada Litoral climbing to your right, the Maresme coast unfolding ahead. Around 25 km. The riding is easy — that's the point.
Into the cellar
The bikes are parked and the oenologist takes over. Vineyards first, then the cellar — soils, varietals, the process from harvest to bottle. About an hour. Ask whatever you want.
The tasting
Three Alella DO wines. Cheese, charcuterie, bread with tomato. No clock on the wall that matters.
Lunch in the vines
The winery lays it out. You decide when it's over.
Back to Barcelona
Your guide walks you to Alella-El Masnou station. Twenty minutes on the train and the city reappears.
