If you're coming from the US and planning a trip to Spain, you probably want to combine history, good weather, and places you've already seen on screen. Seville lets you do that without much effort.
The city has distinctive architecture, a heritage that needs no introduction, and several Game of Thrones locations that HBO chose for their natural beauty. These locations look so good here that the film crew rarely changed the setting.
We at World Experience created this guide to help you understand how to organise your itinerary, how much time to spend in each location, and what to expect from Seville’s rhythm, which is very different from the American pace.
If you prefer not to plan everything yourself or want deeper storytelling during the visit, our Seville Private Game of Thrones Alcázar & Italica Tour offers a structured way to visit both filming sites with a guide who explains each scene, filming detail, and hidden angle you might miss on your own. Travel becomes easier when you know where to go and why it’s worth doing.
Place in the seriesThe Real Alcázar became the backdrop for the Dorne palace. If you remember Oberyn’s scenes, some of them were likely filmed here. The production team chose the Alcázar because its Mudejar-style details are so detailed and authentic that almost no adjustments were needed.
Upon entering, you walk into the Patio de las Doncellas and its courtyards, where many of the decorations seen on screen still remain. The Jardín de la Danza is instantly recognisable and often the moment when GOT fans feel a small shock of recognition. The upper floors have a view of the gardens that appear in several episodes.
Spend at least an hour and a half here. Arrive early, because after 11 a.m., the number of visitors increases quickly. Buy your ticket online to avoid queues.
If you join the World Experience private tour, the guide leads you through the exact filming corridors and garden pathways used by the camera crew, and points out lesser-known details that most visitors walk past.

Itálica, located a few minutes from Seville, became Dragonpit. One of the most important meetings in the series took place here, so many travellers consider this place essential.
A remarkably well-preserved Roman amphitheatre where the original structure is still visible. The underground tunnels show how the arena functioned in ancient times. Although HBO added props, the real structure did most of the work.
Set aside at least an hour. The sun is stronger here than in the centre of Seville, so bring water. Itálica is easy to reach by bus or Uber, and there is a small on-site museum with Roman artefacts.
If you join our Game of Thrones Alcázar & Italica Tour, transport is included, and the guide takes you directly to the filming angle used in the Season 7 Dragonpit scenes. Many people find this helpful, because Itálica is large and it’s not always obvious where the most iconic shots were taken.

The Osuna bullring became the arena for Meereen’s gladiatorial combat. One of the biggest scenes of season five was filmed here, and the town is still proud of it.
The Plaza de Toros retains its original structure. It’s easy to recognise locations where Daenerys and the Unsullied stood during the great battle scene. The Osuna Museum contains materials from the filming and behind-the-scenes information.
The journey by train or car takes about an hour. Two hours are enough to explore. Osuna works well as a half-day extension if you want more GOT content beyond Seville.
Lunch in Spain begins later than in the US, so many restaurants will still be closed at noon. Attractions often have siesta breaks, so always check opening times.
Walking is the fastest way to move around Seville’s old town. Uber and Bolt work well. Italica is easily accessible by public transport. For Osuna, a train or rental car is best.
The World Experience GOT tour includes private transport, which is useful if you want to save time and avoid navigating bus schedules.
From May to September, temperatures in Seville can exceed 40°C, so water is essential. A hat helps avoid dizziness, especially in Italica, where there is little shade.
The Jardín de la Danza, the Real Alcázar courtyards, and the edges of the Italica amphitheatre consistently produce great photos. The Osuna arena adds a stronger, sand-coloured backdrop for more dramatic shots.
The Real Alcázar’s shop offers historical replicas. The Santa Cruz district has occasional GOT-themed items. Osuna’s museum contains the most accurate film-related material.
You can always explore Seville on your own. Still, many travellers from the US prefer a guided experience that provides context, avoids waiting in lines, and covers both filming locations efficiently in a single itinerary.
For that, the World Experience Seville Private Game of Thrones Alcázar & Italica Tour brings both sites together in one curated journey, with a local expert explaining what was filmed where, how scenes were prepared, and how the production team used the city’s architecture to create the world of Dorne and Dragonpit.
