It then builds the half day around the city that made the bookshop famous: the tiled hall of São Bento, the Sé above the rooftops, the port lodges seen from the cable car and six bridges seen from the river. HOW IT RUNS

Livraria Lello admits visitors only with a timed ticket, and the cable car and river cruise each need tickets of their own. Your private guide arrives with all three arranged and links the walk, the Lello slot, the cable car and the boat into one continuous route, so there is nothing for you to book or time. The order of the stops may change depending on your Lello time slot.

Hotel pickup · Central Porto

Your guide meets you at your hotel if you're staying in central Porto. For hotels elsewhere, you'll receive the meeting point before the tour.

Livraria Lello · Rua das Carmelitas

You enter on your Gold ticket, climb the carved red staircase under the stained-glass ceiling, and collect your book from "The Collection" on the way out.

Historic center on foot · São Bento, Sé & Ribeira

The walk crosses the UNESCO-listed center: the tiled hall of São Bento station, with its scenes of Portuguese history in blue and white, the Sé on its hilltop, and the steep lanes down toward the Ribeira waterfront.

Gaia Cable Car · Vila Nova de Gaia

A short ride above the rooftops of the port wine lodges brings you down to the riverfront, with Ribeira across the water.

Douro Six Bridges Cruise · Douro River

A shared sailing with other passengers passes under all six of Porto's bridges, with the old town and the Gaia wine lodges on either bank.

End of tour · Cais de Gaia

The tour finishes on the Gaia riverfront, beside the port wine lodges and a short walk across the lower deck of the Dom Luís I from Ribeira.

  • Walking: Porto's old town is steep and cobbled, so shoes with good grip are recommended.
  • Livraria Lello: the shop is small and busy, especially in summer, so expect a crowd inside even with a timed ticket.
  • River cruise: sailings depend on weather and river conditions.
  • Best time to visit: spring and early autumn are mild and comfortable for the hills. November to February is the wettest stretch, so bring a rain layer.

Free cancellation up to 7 days before the scheduled date (excluding monument/attraction tickets, which are non-refundable). An optional cancellation insurance is available during booking, allowing cancellation up to 48 hours before departure for a full refund (excluding tickets where applicable).

Operator cancellations due to weather or unforeseen circumstances are fully refundable. No-shows will be charged the full price.
