Five hours in Porto with a private local guide: the UNESCO-listed center on foot from São Bento to Ribeira, a 10-minute helicopter flight over the Douro and a cruise beneath its six bridges. Guide, flight and boat come booked as one half day.

 

Porto is built into the steep sides of the Douro gorge, so most visitors see it in pieces: a tiled station hall, a riverside terrace, a bridge glimpsed between rooftops. This half day shows you how the whole city fits together. On foot, a private guide explains the old town street by street. From the helicopter, the river, the old town and the port lodges of Vila Nova de Gaia finally line up. The cruise then shows the same city from the water. It suits couples and families with only a few days in Porto who want more than a walking tour, and anyone celebrating a birthday or anniversary. Your guide meets you at your hotel and the walk begins in the historic center. 

Historic center on foot · São Bento, Bolhão Market & Ribeira

The walk starts in the entrance hall of São Bento station, where blue-and-white azulejo panels show scenes from Portuguese history. It continues to Bolhão Market, Porto's main food market, which reopened in 2022 after a full restoration, and ends on the steep lanes down to the Ribeira waterfront.

Helicopter flight · Over the Douro

A 10-minute flight over the river, the Dom Luís I Bridge and the rooftops of the historic center gives you the ground you just walked from above.

Douro river cruise · Porto's six bridges

A shared sailing passes beneath all six of the city's bridges, with Ribeira on one bank and the port wine lodges of Vila Nova de Gaia on the other.

Good to Know

  • Languages: English, Portuguese or your preferred language, subject to availability.
  • Walking: the walk goes over Porto's steep, cobbled streets down to the river, so shoes with good grip are recommended.
  • Helicopter: the aircraft seats 3 passengers plus the pilot, with a maximum combined passenger weight of 235 kg. The flight depends on weather conditions
  • Availability: the tour does not run on Mondays or Tuesdays
  • Best time to visit: May to early October usually brings drier weather and clearer skies for the flight. November to February is Porto's wettest stretch, so bring a rain layer if you travel then.
  • Customization: as a private tour, the pace and timing of the walk can be adjusted to your group. Speak with one of our experts if you'd like to change the plan.

Cancellation Policy

Free cancellation up to 7 days before the scheduled date (excluding monument/attraction tickets, which are non-refundable). An optional cancellation insurance is available during booking, allowing cancellation up to 48 hours before departure for a full refund (excluding tickets where applicable).

Operator cancellations due to weather or unforeseen circumstances are fully refundable. No-shows will be charged the full price.
