Pena Palace's red-and-yellow ramparts and a working winery in the Lisbon Wine Region sit under an hour apart, yet the two rarely share a day, one is usually a Sintra day trip, the other a wine day trip on its own. Here, a guide runs both as one private route: the palace and Sintra's historic center in the morning, then an afternoon on Cascais's Atlantic seafront or, as an upgrade, through Quinta da Regaleira's gardens and Initiation Well. A guided walk through the cobbled streets below the palace, past the town's older architecture and small shops, on foot, at your own pace.

Cascais · Atlantic Coast (regular route) 

A guided orientation walk through this seaside town west of Lisbon, followed by free time for lunch by the water. Travelers who choose the Quinta da Regaleira upgrade take free time for lunch in Sintra instead, then visit the estate's Initiation Well, gardens, and tunnels in place of Cascais.

 

Winery & Historic Lagar

The day typically closes at a winery in the Lisbon Wine Region, stop order can vary depending on the day's scheduling. Your guide walks you from a historic Lagar, the estate's original wine press, into its modern cellar, tracing how the winemaking here has changed over generations. The visit ends with a tasting of six wines made from local grapes, paired with traditional petiscos.

Quinta da Regaleira Upgrade

Swap Cascais's coast for Quinta da Regaleira, trading an afternoon by the sea for this Sintra estate's Initiation Well, tunnels and gardens.

  • Ideal for: couples, small groups and travelers over 18, who'd rather pair Sintra's landmark palace with a real wine stop than book them separately.

  • Languages: this private experience can be conducted in English or Spanish. Other languages upon request, subject to guide availability.

  • Your afternoon: the second half of the day runs one of two ways, Cascais's seafront, or an upgrade to Quinta da Regaleira and its Initiation Well.

  • Walking: a walking experience, Sintra's cobbled streets and the palace's hillside grounds call for comfortable, flat-soled shoes.

  • Lunch is free time, so you choose where and what to eat, in Sintra or Cascais.

  • Best time to visit: Sintra sits higher and further inland than coastal Cascais and tends to run cooler and mistier than central Lisbon, worth a light layer even outside winter.
